Chemistry

Chemistry

All the College senior science students take Chemistry and many are keen to do well because the subject has applications in professions such as engineering, the petrochemical industry, medicine and pharmacy.

ChemistryThe broader aspects of studying Chemistry are also recognised as important by so many of the students, too. They appreciate asking ‘why is it so?’ questions and seeking regularities as hypotheses are formed. Such analytical approaches are invaluable reasoning skills and also have wide-reaching applications in numerous careers.

And of course, as many of the students will tell you, Chemistry and chemical compounds surround us in everyday life so who wouldn’t want to unlock the secrets of the matter around us?

The Chemistry course offered at the College aims to:

Train the students in basic understanding of the constituents of matter.
Build up the students’ understanding of experimental Chemistry.
Impart scientific skills.
Help students realise that a significant part of Chemistry is the creation of natural molecules by unnatural means.
